This type of research was quantitative by applying one group pretest posttest design. The population in this study was all the eleventh grade students of MIA at SMA Negeri 3 Padangsidimpuan and sample was taken by using using a random sampling technique, totally 35 students. Data collection used interviews, observations, questionnaires and performance tests. The research results showed 1) the average the use of animated video media (canva) was 3.0 (very good category), 2) the average skill in writing explanatory text before using animated video media (canva) was 63.8 (category sufficient), and after using animated video media (canva) was 78.6 (good category), and 3) based on the paired sample t-test, Sig. (2-tailed) was smaller than 0.05 (0.253<0.05). The type of research was quantitative with a one group pretest post test design. The population in this study was all the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan, the total number 173 students and the sample was taken by using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 27 students. Data collection used interviews, observations, questionnaires and description tests. This research used a quantitative approach by applying correlation method. The sample in this research was 29 students which taken by using total sampling technique. There were two tests used in this research, namely multiple choice test and performance test. The results of this research included 1) the understanding of poetry elements was 74.66 (good category, 2) the ability to write poetry was 79.14 (good category) , and 3) product moment calculation results by using SPSS calculations showed the score sig (1-tailed) was smaller than the alpha score namely (0.003 > 0.05). Research methods used qualitative research . Data collection techniques used interview techniques, documentation techniques, and record techniques. The research informant is the writer of the novel, Kang Abay Adhitya. The data of the research was collected from quotations of words, sentences, which contain moral values sourced from the dialogue between the characters contained in the novel. This research used qualitative methods. Data collection techniques used reading techniques and note-taking techniques. Research data used sentences or quotations that describe the themes and messages within. Triangulation was used in data validity. The results of this research showed that there were 30 themes and messages, 6 themes about physical, 20 social, 2 divine, 1 selfish, and 1 prioritizing career over school.
